With the free-standing sign withdrawn, the officer considered only the wall-mounted sign on the Orchard Road elevation under the Control of Advertisements Regulations 2013, focusing on amenity and pub…
General Policy 6
Requires advertisements in towns/villages to be high standard design relating well to the building/site, in keeping without detracting from the area, and not causing highway safety hazards. The officer assessed the wall sign as meeting all criteria: good design on modern building, improves blank gable in mixed-use area, no safety issues. No tension noted post-withdrawal of freestanding sign.
General Policy 7
Generally does not permit advertisements on sites/buildings other than those they relate to. The sign relates directly to the Shoprite building and car park it advertises, so compliant without issue.
Time limit
The advertisement(s) hereby granted consent shall be begun before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice. Reason: To avoid the accumulation of unimplemented advertisement consents.
Port Erin Commissioners objected to the free-standing signage on Bay View Road due to concerns over positioning, lighting, size, light pollution, and pedestrian visibility, while having no issues with the Orchard Road signage; DOI Highways Division reported no highways interest.
Key concern: sign would obscure pedestrians leaving the car park via that exit from vehicle drivers, and vice versa
