Port Erin Commissioners [email protected] 11 May 2017 17:19 DEFA, Planning Case Update: 1474 - 17/00445/D Shoprite, Bridson Street
Dear Sirs, The Board of Port Erin Commissioners considered PA17/00445/D at its meeting on 9th May 2017, and resolved to raise objections to the application.
The Board has no issues with the proposed signage on the Orchard Road elevation. However, the Board has significant concerns regarding the positioning, lighting and size of the proposed free standing signage at the Bay View Road of the site. There is more that one business operating from the site, which is owned by multiple parties, and there are concerns that a number of signs will be requested in the future. Concern over the timing of any lighting of such a sign as light pollution may affect properties on Bay View Road and Bridson Street. It is also worthy of note that the current regeneration works will result in the bus service rerouting onto Bay View Road. As such, Bus Vannin and the DOI will be creating a bus stop on Bay View Road adjacent to the junction with Nelson Street. This will see an increase in pedestrians leaving the car park via the entrance at which the proposed sign would be placed. Concern was raised as to whether the sign would obscure pedestrians leaving the car park via that exit from vehicle drivers, and vice versa.
The Board stated that it would not necessarily be opposed to a similar sign to the Orchard Road elevation on the building at the Bay View Road end of the building, including lighting of such, but would reserve judgement until such plans may be submitted.
Yours faithfully, Jason
