Planning permission was required because the site is within a conservation area, where statutory undertakers' permitted development powers do not apply for lampposts.
Conservation Area Policy 4 of Laxey and Lonan Area Plan Order 2005
Requires special attention to preserving or enhancing conservation area character or appearance. The officer assessed the single lamppost's impact as suitably limited, especially following approval of nine similar lights, finding it acceptable without harming the area's character.
Time limit
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.

Key concern: proposal is unsustainable
Patricia S. Newton
ObjectionThis proposal is unsustainable.; If an additional light were to be inserted it should be on the other side of the road adjacent to the steps on the public footpath, public toilets, dog parlour, and beach huts where it might actually be of some use.; As with other poles and signs on the promenade it will be an obstruction to pedestrians, and attraction to dogs and unsightly.; The proposal just for one street light will cost around £5000 of ratepayers money to add to the £45000 plus which the rest of the scheme will cost if it goes ahead.
