Note received recommending smoke detection
Lonan Parish Commissioners recommend refusal due to overdevelopment and traffic safety concerns; Department of Transport (Drainage and Highways) have no objection subject to conditions; Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside & Environment raises concerns about preserving the mill wheel-pit; Fire Service recommends smoke detection.
Key concern: overdevelopment leading to unacceptable increase in traffic on dangerous bend
Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside & Environment
ConcernsThe remnants of a collapsed wheel remain and the pit and outlet culvert also.; Whilst it may be unrealistic to require the wheel’s restoration (though such any offer in return for PP would be appreciated) we feel that the wheel-pit deserves to be a feature in any alterations planned.; There is opportunity here to preserve the basics of most of these. The loading door has a fine arch. We look forward to the detail plans.
Conditions requested: If domestic premises are to cross it, then a glazed, footbridge-like structure, should be all that is allowed; Any permission given for change-of-use of a vernacular building must preserve its character, and the character of the structure of a mill involves the wheelpit, the loading doors and ramp and, of course, the mill race
Department of Transport Drainage Division
No ObjectionUnder section 4(3) of the Sewerage Act 1999 the applicant must give 21 days notice, in writing, to the Drainage Division, prior to making any communication to the public sewer.; A communication fee will be payable to the Department of Transport in respect of this drainage reconnection.
Conditions requested: The proposed dwelling must be connected to the public sewer(s) in a manner acceptable to the Department of Transport Drainage Division. All drainage works must conform to the requirements of the Department of Transport’s “Manx Sewers for Adoption”; There must be NO discharge of surface water (including that from roofs and paved areas) from this proposed development to any foul drainage system(s)
