Do not oppose
Accepting the amendment to the mapped proposal (lower bracken slopes only, winter planting), no further comment; whinchats likely to continue breeding
no particular objection providing it does not involve a blanket of pines
no objection to the principle as variety of trees encourages wildlife diversity, reduces run-off, adds variety to plain landscape
Mixed responses to retrospective afforestation application in Glen Auldyn: Manx National Heritage objects to planting on higher slopes due to ecological and visual impacts with conditions if approved elsewhere; residents and Lezayre Parish Commissioners object; Wildlife Officer and others have no objection.
Key concern: damage to upland heath and bog habitats and disruption to drainage patterns
Manx National Heritage
Conditional No ObjectionManx National Heritage would advise against the continuation of planting in these areas.; Any approval for plantings should be for more naturally shaped edges, so that they sit more sympathetically within the landscape.; If the application is to be approved, Manx National Heritage should be afforded the opportunity to walk the site and check for archaeological evidence
Conditions requested: avoidance of further tree planting on the higher slopes, particularly over areas of heathland and bog; a softening of the outlines of existing and proposed planting blocks so that they blend more easily into the landscape; consultation with Manx National Heritage on the identification and preservation of any archaeological features

ObjectionThis afforestation scheme has been implemented by the Glen Auldyn Sporting Syndicate, we believe it is only intended to provide ground cover for game birds, and represents an intention to expand the shoot.; we as residents of Glen Auldyn are suffering.; The notice of Planning Application for this afforestation is currently sited on a gatepost 100mts south of Donald's Cottage, which is ¾ of a mile from the nearest public highway
Andrew Jessopp
No ObjectionI have no objection to the principle as the introduction of a variety of trees should encourage a diversity of wildlife, and habitats - without adversely affecting the existing ecology - and assist in reducing run-off in storm conditions to the watercourses. It will also add variety to a fairly plain landscape.
SPMC&E
No Objectionto which we have no particular objection providing it does not involve a blanket of pines.
Dr Richard G Selman Wildlife & Conservation Officer
No CommentAccepting the amendment to the mapped proposal, we have no further comment to make; the planting would be done in the winter and on the basis that there will still be substantial, open bracken slopes in this area, it is likely that whinchat will continue to breed.
Lezayre Parish Commissioners
ObjectionThe Commissioners are opposed to all retrospective planning applications.; request that this Retrospective Planning Application is not considered in isolation but should be viewed alongside PA 06/01777/R and PA 06/01771/R. Unanimous.
