4 December 2006 · Director of Planning and Building Control (M. I. McCauley)
West Loughan, Postal Locality, Jurby East, Isle Of Man, IM7 3ez
The proposal involved changing the use of a 2.5 acre (approximately 1 ha) agricultural field on the northern side of the B3 road in Jurby East to plant a mixed species wood. The site is in countryside zoning under the 1982 Development Plan, not within a conservation area.

The officer noted the proposal would result in loss of some agricultural land but emphasized the site is only 2.5 ha, 'a very small percentage'.

Overhead line protection
There is an 11kV overhead line crossing the proposed site and MEA require a 10 metre corridor, either side from the outside conductor which is free of all trees, to be created. The MEA shall also require the right to keep the area clear and trim any tree branches which encroach upon this corridor. Or the overhead line could be routed under ground, however this will also require a 5 metre corridor or the equipment could be diverted around the site. MEA will not accept liability for any costs incurred for the above.
Do not oppose
No objection
No objection; will create different habitat for wildlife (assuming not detrimental to balance of habitats and ecosystems)
Manx Electricity Authority objects unless a 10m tree-free corridor is maintained under their 11kV overhead line or the line is undergrounded/diverted; Highways Division, Jurby Parish Commissioners, and a public representation have no objection to the planting of a 2.5 acre mixed species wood at West Loughan, Jurby East.
