Can you please assist Lucy with this application? I’m not aware of any recent complaints being made to us regarding noise or odours. I note that you were consulted in the PA for extract ventilation in 2004.
Thanks Ian

Dear Ian
Are you able to help or provide comments on this application?
PA 17/01307/B proposes the retrospective installation of an extraction system at the rear of 16 Michael Street, Peel (Rising Dragon Chinese).

2 Included within the submission are photographs you will see the new vertical element subject of this application, but also the existing system which follows the roof. The existing system was approved at appeal in 2006 subject to a number of conditions and approved with a low level discharging point to minimise impact on the neighbouring properties (behind the flue and wooden trellis in the picture) and this system was not to exceed – Laeq 1hour 40db 7am-11pm and not to be used between 11pm-7am. It was also required to have odour control, fine filtration and a UV ozone system.
The current application is for the vertical element, its indicated that this is a 630 flakt woods axial flow fan with two 630 x 500 silencers to each side giving less than 30dba. The termination is via a jet cowl which disperses air to 30m above.
I visited the site 20th April (see attached) the system was not in use at the time of my visit and the shop was closed. There has been an objecting comment submitted stating that the unit is far louder than 30db and that odour pollution is an issue especially when the air is still. The objector indicates that kingspan has been added to the outside of the flue ducting in 2006 but that this badly weathered.
I’m not accustomed to the specific working details of extractor systems of this size, so any comments or help from an Environmental Health perspective would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards
Lucy
