Officer's Report
The site represents the curtilage of Smiths Aerospace, a factory unit on the western side of School Road in Onchan and located within an area designated as Industrial on the Onchan Local Plan, adopted by Tynwald in 2000.
Proposed here is the extension of the premises. The extension will be on the southern side of the premises and measures 4m by 5.3m and is 2.8m high with a flat roof and rendered walls to match the existing factory unit.
There is no indication of what the extension will be used for. Defer for further information.
The applicant has discussed the proposal with Simon Renton who has made a number of recommendations in respect of noise insulation (January 2005) and refers to the new extension housing a pump which could be noisy. He recommends that a noise limit of LAeq 40 dB as measured from the nearest residential premises which are only 15m away.
