The proposal sought permission for the temporary use of part of the residential curtilage at Carrera (formerly Cranage) for storing up to approximately 25 vehicles linked to the applicant's off-site car hire and sales business, which was relocating to a new site in Braddan Business Park.

Refusal Reasons

✗The site is located in a rural area where development including commercial usage is not generally encouraged. The use of the site for the parking of a relatively large number of vehicles would be contrary to the designation of the site as Open Space and from the limited places where the vehicles could be seen, the sight of the vehicles is out of keeping with the rural area.
✗The access to the site from Sir George's Bridge and the road network serving the area in general is not suitable for the additional traffic which would be generated by the use of the site as proposed. In addition, the access to the site from Sir George's Bridge is narrow and passes another private residential property whose amenities and access would be adversely affected by the use of the site as proposed.
