The Advertisement Regulations Act 1925
The Act governs applications to erect hoardings or display advertisements. The signage was assessed as compliant, being inoffensive lettering identifying an existing public use on an industrial unit, with no issues regarding safety, maintenance, or obstruction of traffic signs.
The Local Government (Control of Advertisements) Byelaws 1952
The bylaws require advertisements to be maintained in clean, tidy, and safe condition, not to obscure traffic signs or hinder highway use, and to have landowner permission. The approval was granted in accordance with the bylaws, subject to standard conditions addressing these requirements, with the signage relating specifically to submitted drawings.
Time limit
The development hereby permitted shall be commenced before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
Maintenance of advertisements
Any advertisements displayed and any land used for the display of advertisements shall be maintained in a clean and tidy condition to the reasonable satisfaction of the Committee.
Structural safety
Any hoarding or similar structure or any sign, placard, board or device erected or used principally for the purpose of displaying advertisements shall be maintained in a safe condition to the reasonable satisfaction of the Committee.
No obstruction of traffic signs
Any advertisement hoarding shall not be sited or displayed so as to obscure or hinder the ready interpretation of any road traffic sign, railway signal or signal for the control of safety of navigation by water or air, or so as to render hazardous the use of any highway, railway or airfield.
Landowner permission
Before any advertisement is sited or displayed on any land, the permission of the owner of the land, or a person entitled to grant such permission, shall be obtained.
Approved plans
This approval relates to the erection of lettering as shown in drawing reference L01 and accompanying photograph both received on the 17th October 2003.
