Low risk for bats; condition recommended to protect nesting swifts by restricting roof works May-August
DEFA Ecosystem Policy Officer raised concerns over potential impacts on nesting swifts and bats but had no objection subject to a condition restricting roof works during swift nesting season; Isle of Man Victorian Society supported the scheme but requested a condition for sliding sash windows with horns, later confirming no objection to amended plans.
Key concern: potential disturbance to protected nesting swifts during roof works
Ecosystem Policy Officer (DEFA)
Conditional No ObjectionThe Ecosystem Policy Team are not requesting a formal assessment for bats at this location, but we wish to alert the applicants to the potential for bats underneath the roof tiles; If bats, or evidence of bats, is discovered while work is being undertaken, all work must stop and advice be sought from the DEFA Ecosystem Policy Team
Conditions requested: Thorough checks for bats before and throughout tile removal; tiles to be removed by hand and lifted off directly, not levered
Ecosystem Policy Officer (DEFA)
Conditional No ObjectionThe Ecosystem Policy Team have no objection to the principle of the works, but we believe that avoidance measures need to be put in place to prevent reckless disturbance of nesting swifts; Swifts are listed on Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Act 1990, and so are protected from disturbance whilst nesting
Conditions requested: no works, including the installation of scaffolding, to take place on the roof of the Granary in the swift nesting season (May - August inclusive)
Isle of Man Victorian Society
Conditional No ObjectionWe have viewed this application which is a comprehensive well thought-out scheme; So that there is no confusion this should be a condition of approval
Conditions requested: condition that replacement windows are sliding sash with horns and use timber glazing bars and astragals with glazing in-between as at present
Isle of Man Victorian Society
SupportFirstly we reiterate our comments that the scheme is comprehensive and well thought out; It was the lack of reference to the horns that was of concern; Once again a well thought out scheme - well done
Isle of Man Victorian Society
No ObjectionWe have viewed these and have no objection or further comment
