Groudle Glen Ltd, Groudle Old Road, Onchan, Isle Of Man, IM3 2hz
The proposal involves erecting two 4m high flagpoles on the grassed area in front of Reception Cottage, a bungalow serving holiday cottages at Groudle Glen. One flagpole would display the Manx flag, the other the company's four-coloured logo and name on a white background, with each flag measuring 1.8m by 1.1m.

The flagpoles would be prominent in the streetscene and from the public highway but not readily visible from the A2 coast road, serving primarily to identify the Reception Cottage location to visitors…
General Policy 8
General Policy 8 of the Isle of Man Strategic Plan 2007 permits external advertisements in rural areas only if on or next to the premises, do not detract from area or landscape, use traditional materials unless inappropriate, limit essential hooded illumination, avoid highway hazards, and protect ecological areas from light. Officers assessed the flagpoles as compliant, being on-site, not detracting from appearance due to backdrop and sky views, with no illumination proposed, no highway hazard, and appropriate scale. The proposal met all relevant criteria without tension.
Policy O/TRT/P/4 Onchan Local Plan 2000
Onchan Local Plan 2000 Policy O/TRT/P/4 states the Department will not oppose proposals for improvement of facilities associated with Groudle Glen where appropriate in size, scale, and appearance to location and purpose. Officers found the flagpoles supported by the thrust of this policy as appropriate identification for the reception in a tourism-zoned area.
