23. Malew House
Site size 1.2 ha ( 3.11 acres) Malew House sits to the south of Cross Four Ways (the junction of the A3 and A7) and is a large rendered house which is visible from alongside Malew Church to the south. What is visible is the front of the property and its large chimney stacks. A new entrance has recently been introduced from Malew Road - stone entrance walling and pillars and a large wrought iron gate in the centre with the name of the property in a slate inset into the wall.
The site has been the subject of applications for alteration and extensions - PAs 94/1491, 95/0919, $95 / 1593,04 / 1162,06 / 1588,07 / 0196,07 / 0393$ and $07 / 1464$ - most of which were approved. Planning permission was refused for the conversion of part of the property to offices (PA 97/1180) and permission refused then an amended proposal approved for garaging with accommodation over - PAs 06/2229 and 07/0399).
The site is presently within an area of Open Space on the Isle of Man Planning Scheme (Development Plan) Order 1982.
Assessment
The property is a sizeable one of substantial proportions and has the presence and setting of a large house in its own grounds. What is visible, together with the new entrance gates and its established and mature landscaped setting appears as a property suitable for designation as Existing Low Density Housing in Parkland.
