Concept Overview: Imagine stepping out of your home and embarking on an inspiring journey that transports you through different elevations—from a dry coastal clifftop, through a lush, flower-rich meadow, and finally into a native meadow framed by indigenous trees and enriched by a thriving wetland. All the while, a lively rill weaves its way through these zones, serving as a vibrant thread that links each distinct area together.
- Zone 1: The Upland Oasis The adventure begins at the highest point of the garden—Zone 1. Designed to evoke an upland or coastal clifftop atmosphere, this area features hardy, resilient plants like Cistus, Santolina, Eryngium, and movement from Nassella grasses. Wind-sculptured trees like Hawthorn or Rhus typhina 'Dissecta' stand tall, while tightdomed shapes like Pinus mugo add a grounded contrast, together embodying the rugged beauty of dry upland terrains. As you step out of your home, the gravel and dry-garden planting transport you to a serene retreat that's both hardy and beautiful.
