# Curlew Planting Design Concept

## Planting Design Concept: ‘A Journey Through Nature's Elevations’

Concept Overview: Imagine stepping out of your home and embarking on an inspiring journey that transports you through different elevations—from a dry coastal clifftop, through a lush, flower-rich meadow, and finally into a native meadow framed by indigenous trees and enriched by a thriving wetland. All the while, a lively rill weaves its way through these zones, serving as a vibrant thread that links each distinct area together.

- Zone 1: The Upland Oasis The adventure begins at the highest point of the garden—Zone 1. Designed to evoke an upland or coastal clifftop atmosphere, this area features hardy, resilient plants like Cistus, Santolina, Eryngium, and movement from Nassella grasses. Wind-sculptured trees like Hawthorn or Rhus typhina 'Dissecta' stand tall, while tightdomed shapes like Pinus mugo add a grounded contrast, together embodying the rugged beauty of dry upland terrains. As you step out of your home, the gravel and dry-garden planting transport you to a serene retreat that's both hardy and beautiful.

The Rills Journey A carefully directed rill serves as your guide, inviting you to follow its course. Originating from Zone 1, the flowing water is a narrative thread that weaves through the zones, symbolizing the flow of life and the changing naturescapes.

- Zone 2: The Poetic Meadow As you follow the rill downwards, the landscape begins to shift in Zone 2. This is a vibrant, naturalistic meadow that captures the essence of British flora, with accents of Helenium, Rudbeckia, and Salvia. The stream winds through this area, its sound harmonizing with the buzz and rustle of meadow life.
- Zone 3: The Coastal Wetland Haven Eventually, the rill leads you to Zone 3, merging into a tranquil pond amidst a wetland sanctuary. Native species like Meadowsweet, Ragged Robin, and Alder trees thrive here, completing the journey from dry uplands to the nourishing embrace of a wetland environment.
