General Policy 2
Requires development to respect site and surroundings in siting, scale, design; not adversely affect Conservation Area character, highway safety, or amenities; and support sustainability. Officer assessed the charge points as compliant due to minimal visual impact similar to bollards, no highway issues, and alignment with sustainability aims.
Environment Policy 35
Requires development in Conservation Areas to preserve or enhance character and appearance. Officer noted the charge points do not fully preserve or enhance but have impact similar to existing street furniture like lighting columns, with no significant adverse effect, and benefits outweigh minor visual impact.
Transport Policy 4
Requires highways to accommodate development traffic and pedestrians safely. Assessed as compliant based on no objection from Highway Services.
Transport Policy 6 - Equal weight for vehicles and pedestrians
Gives equal weight to pedestrians in design. Positioning in footpath edge avoids obstruction to pedestrians, prams, wheelchairs, confirmed by Highway Services.

do not object
no objection
Given their size I have no objection in principle, would be useful to know the decision around colour and how this relates to the colour of all the other street furniture.
All consultees (DEFA Conservation Officer, Douglas Borough Council, and DOI Highways Division) raised no objections to the installation of electric vehicle charge points, with minor comments on colour matching and clarification on single vs three-phase units.

Douglas Borough Council
No ObjectionDouglas Borough Council has no objections.; The Council has written for additional information in relation to the above regarding clarity on the type of unit that will be installed. This is specific to whether the charging units are single phase or three phase.; Although this may not be a material planning concern it could be viewed as being more beneficial to have three phase if possible as this could potentially reduce the charging times for vehicles
