General Policy 7

GP7 states that within towns and villages, external advertisements on sites or buildings other than those to which they relate will not generally be permitted. The officer found the sign, though on the site boundary, sited within roadside hedging away from the building, not 'easily recognisable or identifiable as being part of the building or site', thus failing the policy's principles despite no highway harm.

General Policy 6

GP6 permits advertisements on the site or building they relate to if they are high quality, in keeping with the area, and not a highway hazard. The officer assessed subsection (b), finding the sign's siting, design, and size caused 'adverse visual impact on the streetscene' and green buffer, detracting from the surrounding area's positive character along the arterial route.
