Installation of illuminated sign and change of use of part of guest house to a restaurant, Athol Park Guest House, Athol Park, Port Erin

Retrospective planning applications

19/01284/C & 19/01285D

I refer to the above applications in respect of change of use from guest house to Chinese Restaurant and a large external illuminated sign at the above property.

I have resided at Fairfield Athol Park for over 20 years. My home adjoins the above property which has been used as a bed and breakfast establishment for many years. The change of use to a Chinese Restaurant in a predominantly residential area is totally out of keeping with the area.

The provision of a Restaurant will increase the number of visitors to the property and there is an outside seating area which is likely to be used by smokers and possibly diners of the restaurant. This outside seating area looks directly into my sitting room.

The steep steps to the property will have to be lit at night and also the large illuminated sign will cast light into my bedroom and sitting room. There is no disabled access to the property.

Persons arriving and leaving the property at all hours will cause noise and there is also very limited parking in the immediate vicinity. There are various Chinese takeaways in Port Erin the closest only some 50 yards away.

The kitchen is at the rear of the property and being a commercial kitchen will create smells and noise plus delivery vehicles causing congestion to the rear of the property and additional parking and access problems. I am aware that the persons on Glen View Terrace adjoining the Chinese Takeaway are complaining about the noise and smells from the extractor.

The loss of privacy to my living areas with the public coming and going for the meals all year round will be great having an impact on my security and comfort.

Group parties arriving by taxi, mini-buses and then departing late in the evening will be unsettling and not a peaceful home that I and my family enjoy.

The notices have been stuck on the front door of the property and are not clearly visible from the public highway.
