Specialist interest Group
This property falls within the Proposed Conservation Area for Port St Mary.
It is a special interest building by virtue of its mixed material front elevation.
The original door and windows have been replaced with inappropriate design uPVC door and windows at some time. Any new replacements should strive to replicate the original door and windows and not slavishly copy the inappropriate replacements.
The door would originally have been either a six solid panel door or a four panel solid door. It was not unusual for four panel doors to have the upper two panels glazed at a later date.
The windows should be sliding sash uPVC and not casement 'lookalikes' and we refer to a recent application in High Street, Port St Mary where casement type windows were refused.
The door should be properly constructed with stiles, central mullion, top, bottom and mid rail. The bottom two panels should be solid and the upper two preferably solid but could be glaze in plain glass (no leaded lights). The proposed all glazed door with internal divisions should not be entertained at any cost.
It is important to maintain the standard that has now been set in relation to Conservation Areas.
