PA 18/00674 Replacement of existing front and rear doors with uPVC doors, 24, Bridge Street, Peel.
This application is for a property within the Peel Conservation. The submission of photographs of the existing doors without brochure illustrations of the proposed replacements and only a statement on the application form ' As near like for like as possible' is not acceptable.
The replacement doors or windows in any property in a Conservation Area should be as close to the original as possible and not replicate previous replacements.
We have no objection to the rear door replacement as it is not seen by the general public.
At some point somebody has gone to the trouble of installing uPVC sliding sash windows in this unusual cottage property. The front door originally, given the style and age of the property, would have been a six panelled solid wood door. It would appear that light admission in to the interior is important and therefore we would suggest a later style of four panel Victorian door with recessed panels set behind moulded beads. There should be a central mullion set between the stiles and the panels above the mid rail could be glazed with plain glass (no decorative leadwork).
The proposed single top pane of double width like a Magnet door of the 1970's is neither appropriate nor acceptable.
