The proposal was judged acceptable as the single storey link is subordinate to both the dwelling and barns, retaining their importance and preventing the character from being overwhelmed.

Requires protection of countryside character outside settlements, presuming against adverse development unless overriding need. Officer assessed the link and conversion as not harming landscape as they are subordinate, retain existing building forms, and reuse features without new build dominance.
Housing Policy 11
Permits rural building conversions to dwellings where redundant, structurally sound, of interest, large enough, compatible uses, with services, re-establishing original appearance and matching materials; no rebuilding. Barns previously accepted for conversion; structural survey confirms viability; proposal provides ancillary accommodation without affecting character.
Housing Policy 15
Extensions to countryside traditional properties approved if respecting proportion, form, appearance; only exceptionally over 50% floorspace. Extension under 50% of dwelling, design does not detract from dwelling or barns, removes existing front extension for positive outcome.
