Identification of Buildings for Registration
Source: Pps 1 01 Historic
The Department will continue to identify buildings which merit registration and will add them to the Register as appropriate. In doing so, the Department will apply the criteria set out in Policy RB/1.
The Department will consult with owners and occupiers of buildings proposed for registration and will take account of any representations made before deciding whether to proceed with registration.
Where a building is considered to be under threat, the Department may serve a Building Preservation Notice to provide temporary protection while the case for registration is considered.
A Building Preservation Notice may be served on the owner and occupier of a building which appears to the Department to be of special architectural or historic interest and to be in danger of demolition or of alteration in such a way as to affect its character. The Notice has the effect of registering the building for a period of six months, during which time the Department will consider whether the building should be added to the Register. If the building is not registered within that period, the Notice lapses and compensation may be payable for any loss or damage directly attributable to the effect of the Notice.
