Good afternoon
RE: PA 26/10013/AIR - 26/10013/AIR, Lodge Cottage, Ballavarry Farm, Bernahara Road, Andreas
Updated landscaping plans have now bene provided which show the intention to plant a Griselinia Griselinia littoralishedge. Griselinia is a non-native invasive plant species listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990.
It is an offence to plant or otherwise cause Griselinia littoralis to grow in the wild.
As per our previous response updated landscaping plans which do not include the planting of species listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, or cherry laurel, pendulous sedge, buddleia, rosa rugosa, or common snowberry, should therefore be provided before this condition is signed off.
Best wishes

Objection on behalf of the Ecosystem Policy Team Cherry laurel, though not currently listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, is considered a non-native highly invasive plant species, which is already causing problems across the Isle of Man by rapidly spreading and out-competing native plants. We therefore do not recommend it’s planting, especially in this this rural setting next to semi-natural habitats, into which it is likely to spread. Planting in this location should be undertaken with native or other well established species. Updated landscaping plans which do not include the planting of species listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife Act 1990, or cherry laurel, pendulous sedge, buddleia, rosa
rugosa, or common snowberry, should therefore be provided before this condition is signed off.
Best wishes
