Strategic Policy 4

DEFA RB Officer and Manx National Heritage object to the proposals due to adverse impacts on the setting of registered building RB278 at Santon Railway Station, while Highways has no objection.
Key concern: proposals fail to preserve the setting of registered building 278 (Santon Railway Station)
DEFA RB Officer
ObjectionRecommendation: Refuse; the proposed deck overhand and the proposed use of a modern ‘stone veneer’ finish will have a significant adverse impact on the character of the bridge; Given the clear negative impact that this proposal would have on the setting of registered building 278, it is recommended that the application be refused; any alterations to the bridge’s width or form should be focussed on the western side so that the setting of the registered building is preserved
Manx National Heritage
Objectionwe therefore cannot support the wholesale alteration of the east side of the bridge; We would rather prefer to see the retention of the parapet and its characteristic Manx stonework (complete with distinctive 'soldier' parapet) on the east side; a 2.64m / 9'8" wide pedestrian pavement, in a rural context such as this, appears wildly excessive; the 1.5 m high parapet will deny anyone shorter than 1.65m / 5'5" a practicable view
Conditions requested: retention of the parapet and its characteristic Manx stonework on the east side
Highway Services HDC
No ObjectionAfter reviewing this Application, Highway Services HDC finds it to have no significant negative impact upon highway safety, network functionality and /or parking.
