Decision Notice 08/02224/B Appendix A

Town and Country Planning Act 1999
Town and Country (Development Procedure) Order 2005
Mr Hugh Logan Bridge Court 10 Bridge Street Castletown
RECEIVED 6 - MAY 2009
In pursuance of powers granted under the above Act and Order the Department of Local Government and the Environment does hereby REFUSE the following application made on behalf of:
Name: Dr D W Costain Proposal: Creation of an off road parking bay at: 1 Daisy Bank Cronk Road Port St. Mary Isle of Man IM9 5AS
which was considered on 26th February 2009, for the reasons set out below.
Date of Issue: 5th March 2009 Murray House Mount Havelock Douglas Deputy Secretary to the Planning Committee
Reason(S) For Refusal:
- Whilst the provision of off road parking is generally welcomed by the Department, and in this case it is acknowledged that there is a lack of off road parking and a congested streetscene from on street parking, the provision of off road parking as proposed would result in severely limited visibility for the drivers of vehicles emerging from the site and limited visibility of approaching pedestrians by drivers both driving out or reversing into the proposed spaces. As such the benefit of the additional off-road parking space (whilst two spaces are proposed, there will be a loss of at least one on-street space to provide the access), is outweighed by the reduction in road safety in this case.
This decision was made by the Acting Senior Planning Officer in accordance with the authority delegated to him under Article 3(13) of the Town and Country (Development Procedure) Order 2005.
