The Site

The site represents the curtilage of Ballasalla Primary School situated to the north west of the A5 Douglas Road, in the centre of Ballasalla. The site accommodates the school and playing fields and car parking.

Planning Status

The site is identified as Primary School on the Isle of Man Planning Scheme (Development Plan) Order 1982.

Planning History

There have been a number of applications submitted in respect of this site, none of which are relevant in the consideration of this application.

The Proposal

Proposed now is the installation of a timber play house within a walled area beside the school building. The play house is basically a roof with seats within with a footprint of 2m by 2.4m and 2.4m high.

Representations

Department of Transport Highways and Traffic Division and Malew Parish Commissioners indicate that they have no objections to the proposal.

Assessment

The play house will not be visible to the public and will not adversely affect either the operation or the appearance of the school.

Party Status

The Department of Transport and the local authority are, by virtue of the Town and Country Planning (Development Procedure) Order 2005, paragraph 6 (5) (c) and (d), considered "interested persons" and as such should be afforded party status.
