Polytunnel Justification Statement
The additional Keder polytunnel, and Robinsons greenhouse (Clad with twinwall polycarbonate not glass) will enable us to meet the ever increasing demand for quality bedding plants. This spring we were unable to meet demand, with ever increasing demand from new housing developments, various local commissioners MEA, MER Dandara etc.
The use of the latest cladding materials which provide excellent thermal insulating characteristics will enable production of bedding plants without the need to burn any carbon based fuels (providing winter/spring conditions don’t get any colder as in recent years), All produced with local workforce, unlike B&Q who import plants grown in Holland, Italy & UK. Bedding will be grown and sold with Zero carbon emissions.
A planning condition in 2001 PA No. 01/00004/B part 6 states “Sales from the nursery must be restricted to the retail and wholesale of produce grown or matured on site” therefore we are unable to buy plants in. If we don’t produce enough, we only to increase the probability of more importation into the Isle of Man.
The greenhouse has been in storage for 9 years, but with the chosen site and 8 years of tree planting we are confident it wont be visible from the roadside or by neighbouring properties.
