Port Erin Bowling Club - Erection Of New Floodlights
We would like to make the following statements regarding our retrospective planning application for new floodlights. We are applying for permission to change the type of lights and also permission for the lights to be permanently erected. In our opinion the old lights were unsafe and the mounting poles were deteriorating and had, in our opinion, become dangerous.
We were successful in obtaining a lottery grant and were able to purchase more modern and energy efficient light units. For example, we now only have 1 x 1000 watt bulb per unit rather than two. The new poles have been set in concrete to make them more secure with a winch fitted so they can be lowered for maintenance. It is however intended that they are only lowered for that purpose - they are not designed to be routinely lowered. The pole is connected to the base which is set in concrete and would require an electrical contractor to disconnect them if they needed to be removed at the end of the season.
We anticipate that the lights would only be used from March when the green opens until the last day of September when the Commissioners close the green. This estimates to approximately thirty times as during the summer months it would not be necessary to use them.
We certainly do not wish to antagonise the local residents and will do our utmost to ensure that they are not used unnecessarily and will be switched off as soon as possible at the completion of the matches.
