Courtyard Press Strategy Resubmission
The Courtyard Press
A strategy by Juan Moore
The Courtyard Press Mission statement
- The courtyard Press will be dedicated to the promotion of Manx art and Manx Artists
- We aim to produce Manx made “Artist’s books” and sell them both here at home and in the UK, Europe and the US as well on the Internet. Thus establishing to the world the “Manx Art Scene.”
On the Island at the moment there is only one art gallery (the courtyard gallery) and no illustration industry. Established artists over here often don’t have the funds to produce quality prints of their work and get virtually no exposure from the UK or other art markets unless they pursue them individually with their own funds.
How would the Courtyard press promote Manx Art and Manx Artists?
- Artist’s Books
- Prints of artists work for sale through the Courtyard Gallery
What is an “Artist’s Book?”
I use the term book very loosely here; an artist’s book is a limited edition usually a printed object. This may be a standard “turn the page” book, it could be a deck of illustrated cards, it could be a postcard book or it could involve an elaborate folding or binding mechanism that would effect the narrative or the subject matter of the “book.” Any visual artist, regardless of whether they work conceptually, traditionally, in 2D or 3D materials, from Ceramicists to Photographers, from Painters to Sculptors. Any practitioner of these disciplines could produce an artist’s book.
Prints
Production of prints of artist’s work is a natural extension of the service that Courtyard Artists provide the Manx people. The prints of artist’s work would be open to all Manx artists and this service would encompass not only the reproduction of artist’s work but also the scanning and making sure we get the best possible prints of the artist’s work. These prints would then be exclusively on sale at the courtyard gallery.
The company would also aim to produce an annual catalogue of prints that would be available at the gallery. These could also be sent out to perspective buyers and will eventually be available via the website.
