THE APPLICATION SITE AND PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT

The application site comprises the curtilage of a detached dwelling that is located on Baldhoon Road in Lonan.

The proposed development comprises of the installation of solar panels on an existing swimming pool building contained within the application site.

PLANNING HISTORY The building on which the panels are proposed to be installed was permitted by the approval of previous planning application 06/00051/B. REPRESENTATIONS Lonan Parish Commissioners recommend that the planning application be approved. PLANNING POLICY

The application site is within the area covered by the Laxey and Lonan Area Plan. The application is not specifically zoned and effectively represents a dwelling in the countryside. The site is within a wider area of high landscape value and scenic significance. There are no policies within the plan, or general planning policies, that I consider to be specifically relevant to the assessment of the planning application.

ASSESSMENT

The installation of solar panels is something that should be generally encouraged by the Department. In this instance the panels will have a similar visual appear as roof lights, which is considered to be unobjectionable.

It is recommended that the planning application be approved.

Party Status

I consider that all parties that made representations to the planning application meet the criteria of Government Circular 1/06 and should be afforded interested party status.

C 2. This approval relates to the location plan, site plan, solar panel details and drawing no. 06/0141/1 date stamped the 3rd November 2006.
