Fo Cronk Agricultural Tie History

The house known as “Fo Cronk” was built in field No 1657 in 1976/1977, after obtaining planning approval in principle under planning application number 41473 dated 12th March 1976 and detailed planning consent approved under planning application number 42268 dated 13th August 1976, copies of the original approval notices are attached. The house was approved with an “Agricultural Tie” attached to the approval. See photographs numbered 06 0106/1 to 06 0106/4 for elevations of existing dwelling and drawing number 06 00106/5 for Site Plan of “Fo Cronk”.

The house was built by Mr T. E. Q. Corlett with the field being owned by his father Mr E. T. Corlett of “Croit-Molly-Rob”. See drawing number 06 00106/5 for Site Plan of “Croit-Molly-Rob”.

The purpose for building the house was because Mr T. E. Q. Corlett was renting “Kiondroughed Farm”, Andreas and the lease was coming up for renewal and the owner of the farm was wanting to sell.

Mr T. E. Q. Corlett also owned hill land at Narradale, Sulby, approximately 108 Acres, see drawing number 06 0106/7, and approximately 11 Acres of meadow land at Clennaugh Road, Sulby on which he ran sheep, see drawing number 06 0106/6. He also rented two fields adjoining “Fo Cronk”, see drawing number 06 0106/8.

Mr T. E. Q. Corlett moved into “Fo Cronk” in June 1977.

In 1978 Mr E. T. Corlett of “Croit-Molly-Rob”, died and left both “Croit-Molly-Rob” and field No 1657, which “Fo Cronk” is built in, to his son Mr T. E. Q. Corlett.

Later in 1984 Mr T. E. Q. Corlett sold “Croit-Molly-Rob” to his son Mr T. D. Corlett who has lived there with his wife and family since 1981.

In 1982 Mr T. E. Q. Corlett sold the 108 Acres of land at Narradale, drawing number 06 0106/7, to retire on the proceeds. He still retained the 11 Acres of land on Clennaugh Road, drawing number 06 0106/6, to keep reduced amount of sheep. He also worked for Corlett Sons and Cowley from 1978 to 1982, when he retired at the age of 62. He kept a handful of sheep until he had a pacemaker fitted in 1990 and he had not farmed since. The 11 Acres of meadow land was sold in 1990 and the lease for the rented fields adjoining “Fo Cronk”, drawing number 06 0106/8, also ceased in 1990.

Mr T. E. Q. Corlett died in 1996, since then only his wife Hazel had lived in “Fo Cronk” and she lived there until she died on the 4th August 2005. The property was then left to Mr T. E. Q. Corlett’s son Mr T. D. Corlett.

Mr T. D. Corlett is now applying for the removal of the original “Agricultural Tie” attached to “Fo Cronk”.

As can be seen from the above information the original land that was in ownership with “Fo Cronk”, and therefore farmed from the property, has over the passing years been sold off. Also the tenancy for the original rented land adjoining “Fo Cronk” ceased back in 1990. This leaves only the original field No 1657 in ownership with “Fo Cronk”. Both we and our client feel that the original agricultural purpose of the dwelling has been lost and thus seek removal of the original agricultural tie.
