Notes to Application – replacement windows to the first second and third floors, 3 West Quay, Ramsey.
The applicant has met with the Conservation Officer, Mr. Steven Moore, to discuss proposals for the replacement of existing windows to the front and side elevation of number 3 West Quay, Ramsey.
The Conservation Officer advised that the windows, as existing, were not original to the building, formerly a warehouse which was converted around the early 1970’s. In particular Mr. Moore did not feel that either mock Georgian, as fitted, nor sliding sash would be appropriate to this type of building, preference was suggested towards a simple casement arrangement, thirds opening where window size permitted.
The proposed window styles have been discussed with Mr. Moore who advised that in his opinion they would be acceptable, subject to planning approval.
The applicant has a preference for uPVC installation. In particular the side lane is narrow and therefore access to the higher windows for maintenance is prohibited by ladder (the existing windows having the appearance of never having been painted nor maintained in over 30 years), similarly the height of the building makes maintenance of wooden windows difficult.
The enclosed photographs demonstrate the limited visibility of the side lane windows – due to the width of Old Post Office Lane and the fact that all the windows are at first floor level and above. The front elevation of the quayside shows the diverse styles of windows already in place which presents no discernable pattern or precedent. Examples of aluminium and uPVC are evident at first floor and above along the quayside suggesting that a similar approach would be acceptable.
