RECEIVED ON 10 MAR 2006 DEPT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENT
3rd March 2006
The present doors are timber with T & G boarded infill. These doors have proved very draughty as the boards open and close with the highs and lows of temperature and humidity. The rear doors were replaced in 2004 and these have proved very satisfactory. The Commissioners now wish to replace the front doors and frames with aluminium. The houses are registered and therefore investigation took place to source suitable matching patterns. The drawings indicate that it is possible to very closely match the existing vertical timber boarding in aluminium.
The doors bring the following benefit and enhancement:
- Completely draught and weather proof
- The doors are insulated
- A five point security locking system
It is appreciated that the location will be of a sensitive nature, but we consider that the finish of the doors can be matched, the design of the doors including all the furniture, ie glazing, letter-plates, handles and locks can be reproduced to a near perfect match.
The Conservation Officer has reservations regarding the introduction of doors with more modern materials, which is understandable, but we would also confirm that dents and scratches etc can be repaired on Island as can timber and, as the houses are all owned by Braddan Commissioners, as opposed to private individuals, we do not envisage that there will be a need to regularly change the colour. As the appearance and finish can be closely reproduced, our clients, Braddan Parish Commissioners see no real objection to aluminium doors.
