Officer's Report
The site represents the curtilage of an existing cottage situated on the western side of the A3 main road on the northern side of Foxdale.
The cottage is relatively traditional with a flat roofed wooden porch on the front elevation facing the road. Proposed here is the replacement of the porch with what looks like a rather unattractive plastic flat roofed porch with full length windows. A pitched roof porch with partially rendered walls would be better. Defer for consultation with applicant.
I have now received a response from the applicant whom in summary prefers to keep the application as submitted, suggesting that the porch should not have to be the same as others and is the lightweight design possibly for structural purposes. Whilst the existing is not attractive, I still maintain that it is a shame that the opportunity is not being taken to improve its appearance in the
replacement. However, it is a lightweight structure which will not have a significant impact on the appearance of the property and there are no objections to it.
