SPMC&E Weekly Applications Views
SPMC&E VIEWS ON APPLICATIONS from WEEKLY LIST 222 List dated 31/03/05 Date of this response 14/04/05 delayed because List arrived late!
05/00471/B Conversion of an existing two storey barn into a dwelling including German demolition of a lean to beam and pole barn and an extension to the barn to one side, Ballig Farm, Glen Helen Road, Ballaspur, St. Johns. It is not clear where the site of the to be demolished Pole Barn is but can one assume it is on the same footprint as the proposed extension? The application admits to a 50% extension, albeit single-story and therefore not too visible. We are not too worried about this one and will be leave it to the LPA’s judgement.
05/00476/B Erection of a wooden shed to store horticultural equipment and livestock feed, Field 130578, St. Judes Road, Sulby, Lezayre Very isolated and rather open site. The proposed building looks rather too much like a cottage but, on the other hand it is better to look attractive rather than just a tin-shack! I suppose the answer is to add a Condition making sure that it is not used as a dwelling-house.
05/00497/B Erection of a detached artist's studio in front garden of, Shee Oil, Lezayre, Jurby Road, Lezayre, OK subject to a Condition restricting it to ‘Uses incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house’
05/00506/B Erection of an additional garage extension with store below and installation of rooflight on main dwelling (Resubmission), Newlands House, Main Road, Baldrine, NOCO (= no comment.)
05/00514/C Change of use for extension to land and additional facilities for, Lonan Ballanette Nature Conservation And Wetlands Trust Land, Off, Ballamenagh Road, Baldrine, Very good if it really means what it says. Why have we never heard of this scheme before? Some parts of this land were very untidy when I walked this way some few years ago and really do need taking in hand and a Landscape Trust dedicated to Nature Conservation coupled with public access, seems ideal.
05/00515/B Two storey replacement extensions to barn to provide additional Lonan office/training and ancillary accommodation, including public WC for Ballanette Trust Land, Ballacregan Unit 1, Ballamenagh Road, Baldrine, See above. Builder’s Offices and a Landscape Trust, seem strange bedfellows! The second is OK in the countryside, particularly in converted vernacular buildings but we have not generally accepted C of U to other sorts of office. Is there to be a Builder’s Yard hereabouts, as well? We feel some concern about this idea of the one use hiding behind the other.
05/00475/B Removal of existing garages and erection of a two storey Mallew dwelling, Workshop And Boat Yard, Derbyhaven, Seems acceptable in principle in that the site already has buildings on it and reads as part of the settlement. However it is a very small site and the design submitted will be seriously below standard in terms of space and amenity land around the dwelling.
