Officer's Report

The site represents the curtilage of Santon School. However the proposed development is actually at the entrance to the site which is not defined.

Proposed is the erection of two signs at the junction, adding to the existing speed limit sign. The signs will advertise the school as the premises of the Professional Development Centre and Life Educational Unit of the DoEd. I can understand why the signs are necessary as the speed of traffic passing the site is considerable and those wishing to visit may miss the entrance.

I have received further information from the applicant who has refined the red line site definition to include only the areas where the signs are proposed and the school is defined in blue.

The need for additional signage is unfortunate as it adds yet more clutter to the roadside but the DoT have erected so many signs on this stretch of the A5 that one additional one, which gives useful information, should not be objectionable.
