Farm Extension Proposal Explanation
Proposed extension to Ballacregan Farm, Sound Road, Glen Maye
Explanation of proposals
Mr and Mrs Clague own and farm 135 acres of Ballacregan Farm, Glen Maye. In addition they rent a further 190 acres at Ballaspit, Patrick Road, St Johns and 35 acres at Ballakilmarrey, Peel. They have no farm workers and only have occasional assistance from casual part time labour as required.
Mr and Mrs Clague have two young children, one boy and one girl. At present the children occupy jointly one of the three bedrooms in the existing house. An aunt lives with them, occupying the third bedroom. She is required to look after the children when Mr and Mrs Clague have to attend to farm business, such as lambing time, which can take them out at all hours. The aunt also helps with the chores around the farm.
The children are approaching an age when they each require a bedroom and the proposed extension is planned to address this matter by providing a ‘granny flat’ for the aunt.
The proposal consists of constructing a double garage at ground level, together with a study, as the farm office, and shower room for visiting veterinary personnel as well as Department of Agriculture visitors.
The upper level of the extension gives ‘granny flat’ accommodation for the aunt allowing her a degree of privacy and the opportunity to have family visitors.
