Officer's Report
The site represents Ballamona Farmhouse - a substantial detached house situated on Ballamona Farm on the coastal side of Quine's Hill, to the south of the Old Castletown Road. The complex is of architectural interest as Armitage Rigby, a famous local architect lived there for some time although his influence on the buildings on the farm are likely to be limited only to the farm buildings not the two houses.
Proposed here is the roofing over of an existing yard at the rear of the house which backs onto the farm lane from the east. The works involve the provision of a chippings and tar roof with lantern light in the centre. This has limited impact on the appearance of the building as the rear wall is already in place and the roof is generally below this. The lantern light will appear above the level of the walling but this is not objectionable.
