Conservation Officer's Report
"Ivydene", Tennis Road and within the Selborne Drive section of the Upper Douglas Conservation Area.
The proposal is to remove the chimneystacks and roof over. This would affect the visual balance of the property and does little to preserve the Victorian roof-scape.
Given the aesthetic quality of the dwelling and those of the chimneystacks their removal is a retrograde and unacceptable step.
The applicant doesn't inform us of why the removal of the stacks is required. It may be that the stacks need re-pointing and the brickwork re-pointed all of which could be considered a repair and Grant Assistable up to of the cost.
Recommendation:-
Recommend Refusal of this application.
