Officer's Report
The Site
The site represents the curtilage of an existing church building situated on the eastern side of Bridson Street. The site has a frontage to the main road of 13m and backs onto number 6 and 8 Lhag Mooar. The building is a modern one, with a rectangular footprint.
Planning Status
The site lies within an area of Residential Use on the Port Erin Local Plan of 1990.
Planning History
Planning permission was sought and granted for an extension to the church under PA 84/0028 and for a further extension under PA 00/2126.
The Proposal
Now proposed is the installation of a ramped access to the front door, meeting the existing steps and forming a ramp to the right of the steps, with a gradient of 1 in 18.5. A stainless steel balustrade is proposed to a height of 900mm.
Representations
Department of Transport Highways and Traffic Division and Port Erin Commissioners indicate that they have no objection to the application.
Assessment
The building is modern and the addition of the ramp and railings will increase the accessibility of the building, which is a community facility with no detriment to the appearance or character of the building or the area.
Party Status
The Department of Transport and the local authority are, by virtue of the Town and Country Planning (Development Procedure) Order 2005, paragraph 6 (5) (c) and (d), considered "interested persons" and as such should be afforded party status.
