Campsite Proposal Statement
The Tommy Clucas Memorial Fund
Proposed campsite at Peel Football Club, Douglas Road, Peel
We propose to apply for permission to have a temporary campsite at Peel Football Club for the two week period of TT 2015, making the site available from Thursday 28 May 2015 to Sunday 14 June
- We note that the site has been used for a campsite previously in 2007, which proved very
popular.
We are in discussions with a local travel agent who would take the bookings for the site. The camping would be pre-erected tents, own tents, or a mix thereof. We consider that a conservative capacity for the site would be 100 tents – we will assess if more tents could be accommodated after running for the first year, so might apply for a greater capacity in future years.
The local travel agent has advised that there is significant demand for camping sites from TT visitors. We are also aware that the only existing camp site in Peel is always full for TT, therefore there is certainly demand in Peel for an additional camp site.
The location (see attached location plan)
Peel Football Club is situated on the main Peel to Douglas road, with bus-stops for travel in and out of town immediately outside the ground. The site is within easy walking distance of all of Peel's amenities including supermarket, general stores, shopping street, swimming pool, public houses, cafes, harbour and beach.
The site (see attached site plan and camping layout plan)
The camping area would involve the whole of the football pitch and surrounding grassed area, except an area marked off at the road end to be used for motor-bike parking, and an area marked at the golf course end due to proximity to the golf course (as courtesy for our neighbour's golfers). We expect most campers to arrive by motorbike or bus. There is ample parking space for those who may arrive in car or van – based on the last camp site we ran in 2007, this will not be a material number, and could easily be accommodate by the available hard standing.
The facilities (see attached plans showing club room, changing rooms, canteen and toilets)
The football club has two good sized changing rooms, one of which would be allocated as ladies and one as mens. Each changing room has a toilet and a shower area with 6 showers (therefore 12 showers in total). There is also a disabled toilet within the ground floor of the football club. These would be open 24 hours. Toilets within the Tommy Clucas Community Sports Hall would also be available, which include a disabled toilet/ladies toilet, and mens which includes urinal. The club also has mens and ladies toilets in the first floor club room, which would be available when the room was open (at minimum, planned to be in the evenings).
The club has a canteen which will be used to offer prepared food (likely by an outside catering firm) – the site will not offer cooking facilities to campers. As an alternative, an outside catering van could be allowed onto the site to provide catering.
The club room has a bar which we would plan to open each evening. The room also has two TV's with satellite TV and freeview – campers will be able to watch TT highlights and other programmes on these TV's.
There is existing safety lighting at the Club that throws light onto the pitch and car park area – no additional lighting is proposed to be added. The lighting illuminates automatically based on darkness and movement.
