The officer considered the initial illuminated sign inappropriate for the Conservation Area, prompting an amendment to a non-illuminated traditional design with a metal bracket similar to other signs …
General Policy 6
Requires advertisements in towns to be high standard design relating well to the building/site, in keeping with surroundings, and not causing highway safety hazards. The officer assessed the amended sign as meeting these criteria due to its traditional design, relation to the shop front, preservation of area character, and 2.4m height.
Environment Policy 37
Permits advertisements in Conservation Areas only if they preserve/enhance the area, use appropriate style and traditional materials excluding glossy/reflective or internally illuminated box/projecting signs. The revised non-illuminated traditional sign was found to preserve the character, using appropriate style and materials, overcoming initial concerns with the illuminated proposal.
