Internal Memo on Condition
Department Of Infrastructure Planning and Building Control Division MEMORANDUM To: Development Control Manager From: Miss Sarah Corlett, Senior Planning Officer Date: 7th August, 2014 Re: PA 14/00117 – erection of two wind turbines, Bay View Farm Ballamodha, Malew ### Satisfaction Of Condition #### Description
1.1 The above application was permitted on 17th March, 2014, subject to a number of conditions, one of which stated the following:
“3. Prior to the erection of either turbine, further plans must be approved by the Plannign Authority which show that the turbine masts are fitted with an obstruction light”.
This followed such a request from the Isle of Man Airport.
Proposal
2.1 The Airport has submitted a letter dated 5th August, 2014 which indicates that they have been in discussion with the applicant who has provided information from the supplier of the turbine which indicates that the fitting of a light to either turbine is impracticable. The Airport personnel carried out further assessments of the site in order to evaluate the impact on airport and flight safety and have reached the conclusion that the fitting of a light is impracticable and that it would be acceptable for the turbines to be erected without them. They indicate that the applicant has agreed to cooperate in terms of ground markings which may be considered necessary and if necessary they can mount a light on an adjacent building.
Recommendation
3.1 The inclusion of the safety light was at the request of Isle of Man Airport who are now accepting that this is not required. Any additional ground works or lights required post construction can be dealt with between the Airport and the applicant.
3.2 It is considered that condition 3 is satisfied by this further information. Miss Sarah Corlett Development Control Manager
