Date of works: June 2025 - September 2025 Description of activity An Arboricultural Method Statement to discharge Condition C6 of the Approved Planning Permission, Reference: 23/01454/GB. This method statement will detail the specification and actions taken to ensure the proposed replacement hard surfacing within the root protection areas will be in accordance with the British Standard for Trees in Relation to Construction 5837:2012, and the monitoring of tree protection measures during construction. Supervision and personnel ● Mr Richard Delaney - 07624 452452 (Site Manager) ● Mr Christopher Bell - 07624 494871 (Arboriculturist) Relevant Standards and Guidance ● BS 5837:2012 - Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction - Recommendations ● National Joint Utilities Group (NJUG) Guidelines for Working Near Trees (Volume 4) Tree Protection Zones ● Root Protection Area (RPA) defined as per BS 5837 are detailed on attached site plan (WL/23/1579) with trees numbered 1,2,3,& 4. ● No heavy machinery or storage of materials within the RPA unless specified ● Tree Protection Fencing to be installed before any works and remain in place until completion

Page 2 of 3 PPE requirements ● Hard hats ● Safety boots ● Hi-vis vest ● Safety gloves ● Safety glasses Site Works Notes The proposed works for replacement of the hard surfacing areas surrounding the property were previously and currently used for vehicle parking and pedestrian access. The proposed works will be a replacement if the wearing coarse using 50mm block paviours bedded on sand. The materials were chosen because of the flexibility and movement allowance of the new wearing coarse and for minimal levelling & excavation works required (<100mm). Any replacement of pedestrian access hard standing will not require any ground excavation works as this will be a like for like replacement. Excavation Methodology - Surface Coarse Works Replacement wearing course to be situated within the RPAs of retained trees is to be designed to accommodate the likely loading. The design proposed does not require excavation of the sub base within the RPAs.
Where it is required for existing hard surfacing to be removed and re-surfaced within the RPAs of retained trees it is to be undertaken under direct on-site supervision by an experienced arboriculturist.
The current wearing course will be broken up where required using a hand held pneumatic breaker, hand tools and wheel barrows to break up and remove the surfacing. Where is necessary to remove the sub base this is to be undertaken using a fork to loosen the material by hand and moved using shovels and wheel barrows.
In some situations, and at the discretion of the arborist it may be possibly to use an excavator using a suitably sized toothless grading bucket. If an excavator is to be used it must be situated to work away from the RPAs or from ground boarding if not on suitable solid ground.
Whichever system is used there is to be NO disturbance of the soil beneath within the RPAs. If roots are found they are to be covered over with damp hessian and a layer of either sharp sand, wood chip or top soil will be applied as soon as practicably possible to prevent desiccation.
In the event of any roots found, those with a diameter of less than 25mm shall be cleanly severed by the arboriculturist cleanly using sharp, sterilised tools. Cuts should be made back to a side root or at a suitable junction to promote wound closure. Any roots of 25mm and above shall be excavated around without damaging them; the arboriculturist shall decide if it’s feasible or necessary to retain the root, if not it shall be severed. Any root discoveries or obstructions to be documented with images.

New Underground Services Trenching for the installation of underground services could sever any roots that may be present and as such adversely affects the health of the trees. For this reason, particular care has been taken in routing and methods of installation of underground services. Following a meeting on-site the required underground service has been located so that no excavations are required within RPAs however the same methodology for excavation will be followed to ensure that no extended roots are at risk of damage. The attached site plan (WL/23/1579) and route plan from Manx Utilities shows the agreed route to avoid the RPAs. Welfare & First aid All welfare and fist aid facilities are provided within the main site building during the works. Emergency procedures The client or principal contractor will ensure that the existing site emergency procedures are followed and that relevant information is given to operatives at time of induction or when changes are made to procedures.
