Key concern: bird strike risk to protected species from glass balustrade
Manx Wildlife Trust
Conditional No ObjectionGlass balustrades are known to result in a significant number of bird strikes, including specially protected species typical of gardens including House Sparrow Passer domesticus.; House Sparrow specifically are a species of conservation concern and are therefore listed as a Schedule 1 specially-protected bird, which is a material planning consideration under Environment Policy 4 of the Strategic Plan.; The application should demonstrate what bird strike mitigation measures are included, noting that alternatives to glazing, or all-opaque glazing provides the best form of bird strike mitigation.
Conditions requested: Prior to the commencement of the development hereby approved, details shall be submitted to, and approved in writing by the Department which set out details of the type of glass or barrier to be used. Resident at 17 Third Avenue
ObjectionThese first floor large windows, new dormer windows and new roof terrace will totally overlook our entire back garden, patio, and into first and ground floor windows.; We would also wish to see little disruption to the wildlife habitat of the small woodland adjoining both properties as currently we have many species of garden and woodland birds, bats and common frogs adding to the biodiversity of area.
Resident at 18 Second Avenue
ObjectionWe are concerned that the proposed roof terrace will infringe upon our privacy and , as such, we object to it's construction.; We are however supportive of all other aspects of this planning application and welcome the introduction of the modern features and materials to the area.
