The Ecosystem Policy Team can confirm that Manx BirdLife’s Breeding Bird Assessment dated September 2024 and the Manx Bat Group’s Preliminary Assessment for roosting bats dated September 2024, are all in order and that a suitable level of assessment has been undertaken.
No evidence of roosting bats or nesting birds was found. However, Manx BirdLife did find some potential nesting sites and house sparrows had been witnessed prospecting nest sites within the brickwork of the building earlier in the year, therefore it is our recommendation that at least 2 nest boxes/bricks are installed to mitigate the loss of potential nest sites. Swift boxes/bricks are the recommended type because these provide suitable nesting locations for swift and house sparrow. These should be placed high up on a north to north easterly elevation, ideally not above windows or doors.
Best wishes
