Statement
The property (The Level Inn) is an old Manx stone property to which the previous owner rendered the outside of the property in a cement/concrete render. We have had water ingress which is trapped behind the existing render and is now causing damp problems through the property (it cannot escape outwards due to the impermeable nature of the existing render and is also causing the existing render to crack on the outside of the property (exacerbating the water ingress and damp problems).
After consulting with a number of specialists, we want to remove all the existing unsuitable render from the outside of the property and bring it back to the Manx original stone, re-point the stonework and then potentially limewashing it in white (depending on the overall condition of the stonework once the existing render is removed) for additional protection. It would be a white limewash to the outside of the property.
What this will achieve (after speaking to several specialists) is to alleviate the problems we are having with the damp in the property, and then allow us to treat the problem internally (drying out and repairing the internal areas impacted) and prevent potential long lasting permanent damage to the property. It will also improve the property aesthetically by bringing it back to its original 'look' and more in keeping with similar properties in the area.
