From: Andrew Brown To: Porter, Vanessa Subject: Re: PA20/00464/CON - Painting in All Saints Church Date: 10 July 2020 11:48:45 Caution: This email is from an external sender. Please take care before opening any attachments or following any links. Thank you, Nessy. I’m struggling at the moment, as my contact in the firm we are planning to use has been made redundant. We are still about a month away from the granting of a Faculty to install the painting in St George’s Lobby, and we may not engage contractors until we have that. However, we understand that once the framing arch has been removed, the painting which is directly on to board (something like hardboard Chris Weeks at MNH believes) will simply be free standing and come away as a whole, at which point it will be protected by being wrapped in a removal blanket and carefully transported to St George's. The removing of the frame, which will be cut down and re-used in St George’s, can only be determined once work begins, and is itself fitted to a wooden veneer panelling. The cost of the removal involves making good the panelling left behind. The whole point of the exercise is to keep our promise to bring as much furniture as we could from All Saints to St George’s - as the painting, truly, is no great work of art but primarily has sentimental value for the people of the closed church who now worship at St George’s, and also, as Chris Weeks wrote, it may be of some minor historical interest as a footnote. It has to go in the Lobby as we could in no way expect to be granted a Faculty to place it in the Nave (I speak as the archdeacon, who manages that legal process). Do come back to me if you need any further information: I’m at my desk for most of the day. I hope you are well?
I am the planning officer for the above application and starting my recommendation, I note that the Registered Building Officer has asked for a method statement of the painting removal and wondered if you would be able to forward this to me, to add to the application and also written confirmation that the painting will be situated within St Georges Church, Douglas.
Happy to discuss either of these, via the below information, if required.
Many Thanks
Nessy
