Queens Pier Restoration Trust Planning Statement
The Queens Pier Restoration Trust (on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure) seeks approval for total of 7 works, the majority of which involve the gatehouse/entrance block building and adjacent area abutting Stanley Mount East, Ramsey.
The main purpose is to improve the visual appearance of the building, restore original fittings and provide a weather-proof unit for use by those working on the Pier.
The list of works is as follows:
- To confirm the bracket style for the support system under the pier for the extension to the pier agreed at a previous Planning Meeting 3.7.17. Attached are copies of the engineer drawings marked .
Retrospective
- Permission (retrospective) to site a portakabin with dimensions of in the position shown on the attached site plan marked $\. The portakabin has been in place since August 2017 and is used on a daily basis as a combined office/rest room for volunteers working on the Pier.
- Permission (retrospective) to move the security gates from beside the land and building as they were positioned to current position marking the end of the lease area held by QPRT by Bay 4. As in photgragh 3 a, b, c.
Reinstatement
- Permission to reinstate the existing windows in the gatehouse/entrance block, currently boarded . Replaced with treated softwood frames and toughened glass at 4 mm thick. The north and south windows to be further protected with metal mesh. Photographs of the existing windows are attached marked to ' '. Dimensions of the windows are as follows;
(a) North, east and south seaward aspects, four in total. Apertures are 6 ft 6 ins .
- Permission to reinstate a new clock on the west elevation of the gatehouse / entrance block, in its original position, between the existing words 'Queens' and 'Pier' situated above the entrance gates. Three photographs are attached as follows;

- Permission to reinstate 2 new flagpoles on the west elevation of the gatehouse / entrance block, in their original positions as shown in the attached photograph marked ' ', namely to the left of the word 'Queens' and to the right of the word 'Pier'. The height of the proposed new flagpoles not exceed 6 metres. 6. photograph
- Permission to paint the entire pebbledash exterior of the gatehouse/entrance block shown on the drawing marked ' ' with rubber oil based paint. The colour will be a muted shade selected by public vote from a restricted list of six already discussed with a planning officer. The paint being used is a rubber oil base manufactured by McPherson (Crown) called pliolite photograph 7.
As well as the plans, drawings and photographs mentioned within each part of the proposed works, a Location Plan dated March 2017 showing the full extent of the site is enclosed.
