A completed 'Development within 9m of a Watercourse' form was received in relation to this work as part of an earlier planning application (17/00406/B). The proposed positioning of the sewage treatment plant appears to be very close to the watercourse (less than 5m) and a discharge pipe will be placed into the water course. While there are unlikely to be fish populations at the site of the works, there are known populations in downstream areas. The main consideration will be to protect these populations from sediment, concrete or other harmful materials that could potentially enter the watercourse. Fisheries, DEFA has no objection to this proposal providing the following condition is met:
- Excavation and construction works to install the sewage treatment plant must be conducted according to written method statements approved in writing by the Department in advance of the commencement of works. Reason: to allow the provision of advice on suitable methods, in order to reduce the possibility of injury or disturbance of fish within the watercourse downstream of the proposed site.
The applicant is advised to contact Fisheries (tel. 685857, or email [email protected]) to discuss method statements and arrange an initial advisory site visit, should the proposal be granted planning approval.
Kind regards
Jan Gledhill
